Publishing Guidelines

The Katoki Institute for Ubuntu Leadership (KIUL) is committed to high-quality, ethical, and community-oriented scholarship. These guidelines apply to all KIUL publications, including the Commons, Justice & Development Journal (CJDJ), books, spiritual works, working papers, proceedings, and blogs.

1. Publishing Principles

KIUL's publishing philosophy is grounded in Ubuntu: dignity, wisdom, community, and shared responsibility. All publications follow four pillars: Ubuntu ethics, rigorous scholarship, accessibility, and quality assurance.

2. Submission Guidelines

Submissions must be original, clearly written, and follow APA (7th) referencing. Email submissions to info.kiul@katokifoundation.org.

  • Accepted formats: .docx, .pdf, .zip
  • Journal articles: 6,000–10,000 words
  • Working papers: 3,000–12,000 words
  • Conference papers: 5,000–8,000 words
  • Blogs: 600–1,200 words

3. Review & Editorial Process

Journal articles undergo double-blind peer review. Working papers are editorially reviewed and authors must present them in a seminar or webinar. Books, spiritual works, and proceedings follow editorial review by KIUL's committees.

4. Ethical Standards

All publications must observe academic integrity, responsible authorship, Ubuntu values, and conflict-of-interest transparency.

5. Formatting Guidelines

Manuscripts must include a title page, abstract, keywords, main text, APA references, and appendices if needed. Use 12-pt font, 1.5 spacing, and clear headings.

6. Open Access Policy

KIUL supports open knowledge. Journal articles, working papers, and blogs are freely accessible. Books and proceedings offer free summaries, with full copies available upon request.

7. Publishing Fees

KIUL does not charge submission or publication fees for journal articles or working papers. Costs for books or printed copies depend on production requirements.

8. Editorial Structure

The Scientific Committee provides strategic oversight, the Editorial Board manages peer review, and external reviewers ensure academic quality. Updated lists will appear on the CJDJ page.
